“Pete Standell, the cameraman who was hit in the head by the ball, has been diagnosed with an orbital fracture and is resting at home,” the US sports channel YES Network said on July 7 (KST).

The cameraman was covering the Baltimore Orioles-New York Yankees game at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, the previous day (June 6), sitting next to the first base dugout.

The dizzying moment came with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anthony Wolfe hit an infield grounder, and Baltimore attempted a second-base-to-first-base double play, but rookie shortstop Gunner Henderson’s throw to first base went wide and struck cameraman Stendell in the head.

Yankees medical staff attended to Standell, and the game was stopped for about 17 minutes. After being helped to his vehicle, Stendell made the “V” sign with his fingers to indicate he was okay, and the crowd applauded for his recovery.
